27 Aug 2021

SINGAPORE, 27 AUGUST 2021 – 100 organisations and individuals were recognised today at the inaugural Enabling Mark Awards Ceremony for their best practices, outcomes and commitment in disability-inclusive employment. Organised by SG Enable, the awards ceremony held at the Istana was graced by Guest of Honour President Halimah Yacob and attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Culture, Community and Youth, and Social and Family Development Eric Chua.

A total of 88 organisations were accredited with the Enabling Mark, a first-of-its-kind national-level accreditation for disability-inclusive employers. This was the first group to be presented with the Enabling Mark after it was launched in October last year.

Coming from public, private and people sectors, the organisations that are accredited with the Enabling Mark include multinational companies and small and medium-sized enterprises from diverse sectors such as F&B, financial services, hospitality, logistics and transport.

In addition, 12 individuals were presented with the Exemplary Employee, Enabling Buddy, and Enabling Champion awards. The Exemplary Employee Award recognises employees with disabilities who have made commendable efforts and contributions at the workplace; awards in the other categories go to individuals who play crucial roles in sustaining their organisations' efforts in inclusive hiring, driving initiatives to support and integrate persons with disabilities at work.

Top honours for disability-inclusive employment

The highest accolade – the Enabling Mark (Platinum) – was awarded to six organisations: Foreword Coffee, Iron Nori, Marina Bay Sands, Samsui Supplies & Services, Seoul Garden Group, and UOB.

Each of these Enabling Mark (Platinum) recipients demonstrated an outstanding commitment towards hiring and integrating persons with disabilities through their recruitment efforts, creating a barrier-free workplace environment and implementing supportive training and employment policies to enable employees with disabilities to thrive. In addition to building an inclusive culture within the organisation, they are also active champions of disability inclusion in the community.

Mr Bernard Chan, Sustainability Consultant, Iron Nori, said, “For a small company like Iron Nori, being recognised with the Enabling Mark (Platinum) is a strong affirmation of our inclusive employment efforts, especially in our HR policies, career development and training for employees with disabilities. With the right training, these employees can be resilient and adaptable. With this accreditation, we look forward to raising customer awareness of disability inclusion, and in turn, create a gracious and empathetic dining space for everyone."

Among the 88 organisations accredited with the Enabling Mark, four were also recognised with the Enabling Innovation Award for implementing new projects, ideas or innovation in their organisations to improve the employment, employability and productivity of persons with disabilities.

Ms Ku Geok Boon, Chief Executive Officer, SG Enable, said: “We are heartened to see organisations embracing disability employment, even with COVID-19 affecting many businesses. It takes a collective push, not just from employers, but also from management staff and co-workers, to start and sustain disability-inclusive hiring so that we can better integrate persons with disabilities in the workplace and enable them to realise their potential. We would also like to congratulate the Exemplary Employee winners for their outstanding contributions in their fields of work – they have shown that persons with disabilities are capable of so much."
