Accessibility & Assistive Technology

A man with visual impairment navigates his way around a bus interchange using the WeWALK Smart Cane. A guide in a wheelchair accompanies him as they chat and laugh.

Benefits for Persons with Disabilities

Accessibility and assistive technology (AT) are two parts of the same ecosystem to enable persons with disabilities to live independently. You can't have one without the other.

The most accessible environment will not benefit persons with disabilities who do not have the necessary AT devices to access them. For instance, a wheelchair user must have space to manoeuvre a wheelchair on wide ramps comfortably.

Let's work together to push for the adoption of accessibility and the provision of assistive technology.

Accessibility

Accessibility refers to the design of products, services or environments to make them usable for persons with disabilities. Accessible design can be applied to both physical and digital spaces, and provide greater access and convenience to both persons with and without disabilities.

Assistive Technology

The phrase ‘assistive technology’ is often used to describe products or systems that support and assist individuals with disabilities, restricted mobility or other impairments to perform functions that might otherwise be difficult or impossible.

The Assistive Technology Centre

Tech Able is jointly managed by SG Enable and SPD. Located in the Enabling Village, it aims to promote the adoption of assistive technologies, so as to enable persons with disabilities to live, travel and work independently.
